Does your home need rewiring?
Wiring doesn't last forever. Properties that haven't been rewired for several decades often have ageing cables, no modern RCD protection and too few sockets for how we live now. Typical warning signs include:
- An old fuse box with rewireable fuses, or no RCD protection
- Rubber, fabric or lead-sheathed cables, or old black-and-red wiring
- Round-pin sockets or sockets mounted on skirting boards
- Scorch marks, buzzing, or frequent tripping and blown fuses
- Extension leads everywhere because there aren't enough sockets
- An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) recommending a rewire

Full rewires and partial rewires
A full rewire replaces all the cables, sockets, switches, light fittings and the consumer unit. It's often the best option before renovating, when buying an older property, or when an EICR finds widespread problems. A partial rewire replaces specific circuits — ideal for extensions, kitchen refits or where only part of the installation is unsafe.
How a rewire works
We start with a free visual inspection to understand the property and what you need. You'll get a clear written estimate. A rewire is usually done in two stages: a first fix, where new cables are run and boxes fitted before any plastering, and a second fix, where sockets, switches, lights and the new consumer unit are connected. We'll work with you to keep disruption to a minimum and keep essential power available wherever we can.
When the work is finished, every circuit is tested. Because rewiring is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations, you'll receive an Electrical Installation Certificate and a Building Regulations compliance certificate through our registration scheme — important documents when you come to sell.
Plan for the future
A rewire is the perfect time to add extra sockets, USB outlets, outdoor power, data cabling and modern lighting — and to think about future needs such as solar panels and battery storage.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a house rewire take?
It depends on the size of the property, its construction and whether it's occupied. An average house typically takes several working days. We'll give you a realistic timescale in your estimate.
Can I live in my house during a rewire?
Often, yes — although it will be disruptive for part of the work. We plan the job to keep essential circuits available where possible and clear up at the end of each day.
Will a rewire damage my walls?
Some chasing of walls and lifting of floorboards is usually necessary. Damage is kept to a minimum, but you should plan for some making good and redecorating, which is why rewires are best done before decorating.
How much does a rewire cost?
Every property is different, so we price each rewire individually after a free visual inspection. Call us on 01902 544323 to arrange one.
Do I get a certificate after a rewire?
Yes. You'll receive an Electrical Installation Certificate and, because rewiring is notifiable work, a Building Regulations compliance certificate.
